The Tears and the Scent

Élise had left everything behind. Law firm. City center apartment. Brilliant fiancé.
One morning, she had woken up with the feeling of having betrayed her life.
She left without luggage, moving from hostels to retreats, from precarious jobs to profound silences.
People said of her: "She is lost.", "She is running away.", "She has ruined everything."
But she carved her own path.
One day, in a small hospice, she met a dying man who no longer spoke. No one came to see him. He had no name anymore. She sat down, washed his hands, then spoke to him gently and told him of her own flight, her own fall.
And then… he wept. It was his first tear in five years.
It is said that she was there when he died. And that he died loved.
Since then, Élise continues. Not to repair, nor to atone.
But to love to the very end those whom the world forgets.
She enters hospitals, prisons, convents. Without status or card. But always with that scent of myrrh, and that gaze that forgives even before one asks.
